I would like to know the meaning and origins of this word? Is it hebrew, hindi or both and what it means in either language. I was able to find something saying that it was a Rabbinic judge. I also saw that it is a hebrew surname. I just wanted to know if there are other meanings for it.

Dayan is another word for a judge in Hebrew.
Moreover, God is the "Dayan of all things in the universe" as refered to in the bible. The word Dayan comes from the word Dean - which means the law. It's another word for lawyer as well as judge. And yes, there was a famous Israeli general called Moshe Dayan.
