I agree with you 100%, you should have pride in your race NO MATTER WHAT COLOR YOU ARE.
GRANTED...
You have something to be proud about?
But why does EVERYTHING have to boil down to black and white??? Geez. Chinese people take very big in pride and culture, Hindu Indians, very big in their pride and culture.. Spanish people very big in their pride and culture, no one is calling them a racist?
And all these races are minorities only in "status" not in numbers.
So if your ancestors DID NOT own slaves, rape their slaves, lynch and burn, and hang people from trees, steal people away from their homeland, break up families, and clasp chains around their knecks, and make them work a land, in which they gained no profit, but only your family pockets and trust fund collected... then by all means, represent your roots. HAVE PRIDE.
If any of the aboves applies to you, then you know nothing about pride... and honestly black people don't even have enough pride in themselves as they should, if want to see some true pride in a race... just look at the Hisdic Jews, but that's a whole other question.
I also agree with you that African American people do not need no darn Black History Month??? They make history everyday.
The shortest month on the calendar at the that???? Please....
Its funny I always tend to get a thumbs down on these kind of answers.. (something about the truth....).
Its okay... I still got my 2 points, and voiced my 2 cents.
Afro Pick... and Im out.

If you look back through Black History, you would never ask that question. Black people have been through A LOT- even now. We've had slavery, oppression, lynching, segregation, civil rights etc. Why can't we be proud that we've come this far and achieved so much?? White pride usually is racist such as the KKK and the BNP. One month out of the year is not a big deal.
Read this story and maybe you might understand.

Because black is proud,I mean I'm proud to be a black Young lady and there are many white people that are still racist. You see black people and I have earned the right to a month of our own. Why?Because blacks in the past put up with a lot of things like beatens, murders, and slavery,so because of the hardships that whites put on blacks we have the right to have a month to ourselves.Blacks are strong individuals and we are proud of the background that we came from. And it's okay to be proud of your heritage,I mean I'm proud of my heritage,so that's fine.I don't know why your saying that seems like segregation because it's not and I'm not trying to be smart so don't take this the wrong way, white folks brought that on their self, the feelings that they have about Black History Month is because of them.I feel that if they hadn't treated black folks with such hatred, there would be no Black History Month. But regardless of all that I love everyone no matter what because God loves us even though we have defects so we should do the same.

Black history month is part of an effort by the department of education to provide african american youth with a positive role model in order to show them that they can be more than a thug or an athlete.
People consider you rascist because you sort of come off that way, at least to me you do. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage but that is not the reason people think you are a little rascist. Don't get offended...alot of people are rascist without really wanting to acknowledge it. It's human nature. Think about how you feel about arabs lately..
As far as hearing about black history in school...um..no, not really. Think about it. In just about any textbook most of the people that it will reference are white. The only time you have any sort of black history in a regular history book is when it gets around to the civil war period..
This is because most of the history that we are taught is either american or european history. We simply are not taught much if anything about the history of africa.

Because when I hear the words "white pride" I think of skin heads. Skin heads were not just proud to be white. They thought they were better than any other race, especially black. So let me explain this in a way you will understand. Black pride is not about being better than other races and putting others down because they're not black. Black pride is something to hold on too, because being black is the worst you can be to some people, and we're sick of it. That's the difference.

Black Pride, in part, is intended to reverse or counter the effects of racism (yes, racism), hatred, and oppression. "White Pride" is racist because the whole movement was begun by, guess who - racists. In this country (and all others I can think of) white people aren't coming from a history of oppression. So they need such a movement.
And we need Black History Month because many ignorant people still think we've contributed nothing to society.

This is so true==I am not predjudice but I absoulutely agree and ***** about it all the time---there is even a college that only blacks can attend-NAACP- what is that- we would be called all kinds of crap if we argued this fact--the truth is the truth--I don't have so much a problem with black history as the hypocritcal crap of their school---we cannot have a white only college and this is our country too---we have Feb. when we celebrate Presidents day but they have Martin Luther King Day in Jan. and they still complain they are not treated equal-I am 40 and believe we are the minority and our heritage is being lost--look at the fight to change the pledge of allegiance that was set years ago by our ancestors--who are we to change it that is like changing the ten commandments---you kids are in for a fight to keep our heritage alive---again NAACP -explain how that is fair.

Its a very valid issue. I'm not trying to hold anybody back, but we have white males with no sense of self identity whatsoever. They are not members of any group and they don't even know why they are lost.
We should be afforded the same considerations that any other ethnic group is afforded. We should be able to acknowledge our race collectively without being labled a racist. In the media today, the only time white males are allowed to be acknowledge collectively it to be labeled an oppressor of other people. We are never acknowleged for all the wonderful things we have collectively given to our society.

Well...let's see, where do I start?
Your history is still a sore subject. Ok...you are proud of your heritage, cool...but what are you saying when you say that you are proud of your heritage? That you are proud of slavery? But then for me to say that would be assuming that your grand people owned slaves, right?
As for black history in schools...you just don't quite have it just yet. What's being taught isn't necessary the real history now is it? Go figure on that one. As a matter of fact, white history...which by the way has been mythologized beyond recognition...has been taught with its own errors.
You're not a racist because you are proud of being white, but it boils down to it when you're proud of the horrible institution of slavery, again, this is only assuming that your folks owned slaves.

Black people starting in the 1900's have been treated as slaves, segragated and humiliated. the reason USA has Black history month is to celebrate their accomplishments,Blacks have earned the right to celebrate their history, since majority of their lives they've been treated like ****, called the N word and seen as a minority group. Blacks earned a history month to teach us people what it is like to triumph without fighting with weapons...their holistic triumph came with words...inspired by Martin Luther King Jr and the beloved Rosa Parks who rightfully made a stand against racism and was the main motivation for blacks to go on a strike of their own...proving they could walk thousands of miles for 380 days under pouring rain until they made their point loud and clear. triumph came however nowadays racism continues. To answer your questions, whites have taken advantage of people not in their high society status...white people don't give a flying **** about how their ku klux klan burned the church in mississippi/alabama nor do they give a **** wether or not how many people they killed. Just go back to the hollocaust in which 100,000 plus jews were killed because they weren't hitlers dream soldiers...tall, blonde hair and blue eyed type. let's not forget hitler was trusted then brought his nation to a dark abyss that didn't find any light until he died. so please don't be trying to justify with your question that you also deserve it... you don't deserve anything... except pity. the reason blacks nowadays are hostile and rebellius is because they're still being treated with hate and injustice...for them a way to survive and stand out above the crowd is to sing or play a sport.
