Well, I answer because I enjoy the cut and thrust of doing so, and it's good mental exercise. I have to think about a range of subjects, dredge up knowledge from my own brain, form an opinion or search for information elsewhere on the web. It's like a mental gynasium, and you get to meet fascinating people, sometimes.
