Disney made the ride way back in the 60's, and then hired
Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio to write the screenplay. They then asked Stuart Beattie and Jay Wolpert for some ideas. There was no novel before the screenplay.

no it is based on the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disneyland. They have recently redid the ride at Disneyland to include things from movies

I heard they are based from a ride at Disney World. This is the first time that has been done.
