A party would just be for the adults as she'll not remember it. However, at the party - you could get a camcorder and record messages for her to watch when she's older. Give it to her at when she's a teenager so she can see how you looked then, how cute she was and how much everyone cared enough to come over and record these messages. On video or DVD, it's a lasting gift...

I agree with notyou311. She's still at an age where she's developing quicker than age specific toys can hold her interest. Then, when she's 4 (like my triplets), you can tell relatives to make a contribution to her college savings plan, instead of adding to an already impressive mountain of toys. lol

As long as the funds are used for school expenses, her college savings plan will always be tax free.

Don't let her birthday pass without a party. Kids only turn 1, once, and you don't want to miss the opportunity to preserve that memory with pictures.

Enjoy her at this age. I know it's cliche, but they really do grow up so fast...

my youngest daughter will be one on the27th October so am in the same boat although on our eldest daughter (almost 3) on her 1st birthday we made her fave tea and just had a small cake and had a few family members round to be honest the gifts were more for us than her so i wont be doing that again besides our eldest birthday is 27th December so she is fed up by her birthday of opening gifts lol i have told people that i know will buy gifts to not buy toys as we have tons and to give cash instead if your daughter has an account that you can take money from (ie not the trust fund sort) then put money cheques etc in there and then when she does need something clothes shoes etc then you can use that its more practical and your little one wont know the difference and if you don't use the money leave it and it will mount up lucky children get more interest than us!!!

Happy Birthday to your little one when it comes and happy 1st year of being a mummy x

I bought my son a present when he was one - a toy that would be OK for 18 months plus and some clothes. I also had a party at home - just a few friends with accompanying mothers. Had tea and they played so more of a tea party than a party. I wanted to mark the occasion, but not spend a fortune on it as he obviously won't remember it. I know it was probably more for me than for him, but I am very glad that I did something.

Just a nice family get together a small cake and pictures would do her great for memories ... for the present - start a nice saving account for her what ever money you were budgeting to getting her a present put it there. Any present you get her now will not be remembered except in pictures and when she is going to college or starting her adult life the saving will be great help for her

I would buy her a present, something colouful and plenty of differnt textures, so she can get used to how different materials feel and what different colours are at an early age, babies like colourful objects and it helps build their hand eye coordination, and in regards to the party I would have a long think about it because at 1 year old I know my son and daughter did'nt understand what was happening they liked the idea of presents but did'nt understand the rest of it.

I would throw her a small party so you will remember the birthday. Have a cake and some presents. Most bakeries will give you a small free 1st birthday cake just for her. On the present you might buy something you have needed for her anyway because at that age they just like the boxes and paper.

take her to the zoo...she'd probably love that a lot more than any present or toy you could give her (that is if she likes animals). then take her out for ice cream and let her make a mess in it and just let her have fun and be a one year old. i wouldn't stress about it...more than likely she's not going to remember a party. parties at that age are more for the parents than for the kids. i also think the college fund thing mentioned above is a really good idea.

One year olds are not at all hard to please. We just had a few friends & family over for cake.We did'nt go all out.You will do enough of that when they get older. We just got him a bike. One year olds always like the boxes better than the toys. She will be happy with whatever you decide.Enjoy that while you can. This is the only B-day you will be able to get away with it.

Yes, start a college fund. And you know what you can throw her a little party but don't get her anything, it's gonna be the first and last time you'll be able to get away with it. I'm sure you have already gotten her so much stuff in the past year.
