The lyrics actually read "stripped of all but pride". Basically, you can compare it to the Biblical story of Cain and Able when Cain becomes the first vagabond after lying to God about killing his brother.

That song is about being on tour. It was written at a time when Metallica were living on the road the majority of the year, going from city to city playing different venues.

Its about a hard rock band traveling on the road. The specific line you mention, I think says "I am stripped of all but pride," which I think means when you're on the road dealing with the uncertainties of travel, sometimes all you have is pride.
BTW, I love Metallica. Great band.

this is a song based on an old drinking song, "wherever i may roam" it was about a guy traveling the world, and drinking, but the only thing that kept him together was that song, wich he love to sing everywhere. this song is something of a spoof, taking it to the hobo level, haha, i think that's right, and hope this helped

Basically the guy's just a nomad. The part "I have stripped of all but pride" just refers to how he has nothing but his pride. He's living off of the land and he is perfectly content. He has no ties to anywhere and is not afraid of offending anyone.

It's "I'm stripped of all but pride", I think it means wherever he is, it's home!
If you like stuff of off the Black album, check out their even older stuff, like of off "Master of Puppets", and "Ride the Lightning"! They both KICKASS!
