I have a friend that wants to chat and I need to be in AOL to communicate with him.

Download AIM - it's free and allows you to chat with aol users. (aim=aol instant messenger).

You don't necessarily have to be an aol member, there are other sites that have chat capability, like Yahoo! Both of you go to yahoo and download yahoo messenger. It is really easy to use also.

I think that if you have an internet connection from someone else, AOL is now free. Try AOL.com.

Go to AOL.com to the AIM (messenger) section. You do not need to be a member to download the app and set up a messenger id.
