It is a pom pom tree and 2 of the 4 poms turned brown. I water it often and lately we have gotten quite a bit of rain, so I don't think it is that. We don't have any kind of bugs that are eating it I checked and also used a pesticide. Does anyone know what else it could be?

The tree is in full sunlight in the afternoon, because of the way the house sits.

Not enough sunlight doesn't cause a plant to look like it's dying, that's too much, or especially if to much sun all at once, leading to sunburn. If the dead is nice and crunchy, trim it off, you may have to trim all the way around to keep it's shape. If it's in a pot don't turn to often , let it get acclimatised. Keep it moist ,but make sure you have good drainage, it will snap back now that the whether is getting cooler.

You describe the problem as being 2 out of 4 pom poms truning brown.... this WILL happen. The flowers can not / will not last for ever nor will they all last the same length of time.
However, if you also mean the leaves on that part of the tree are browning I might guess that the corresponding roots - and they may not be under that part of the tree, are not getting enough water.
It has been known to happen that people will water a plant, always dumping the water in the same location, not realizing that another part of the ground is not getting any or enough. Test the soil all around your tree and be sure there is not a "dry side" that could be affecting the roots there.

It sounds like it could be a fungal infection. What happens is the mycelium (fine threads of fungus) fill up and clog the fluid conducting layers of the plant tissue. It generally spreads throughout the plant from one part to another and is a slow kill rather than entire immediate kill. Just a guess. Contact your local Cooperative Extension office and aske them; they should have a master gardener on staff that can take a look and offer advice.

You should check and see that your plant is getting enough sunlight all arround. Somtimes you think it is, but the way its positioned outside sun may be only getting to one side.
