This is a very common mistake amongst people who are confused about evolution.
I highly recommend you read " River Out Of Eden" by Richard Dawkins.
In this book, he gives easy to understand metaphoric examples that will give you a better view on the subject.

We are primates as are all the apes that exist today. We ALL evolved from a common ape-like ancestor. We are all monkeys and we all share a common ancestor with all the other monkeys. That lineage split into several sub-species that took advantage of the ecological niches available to them and then specialised and evolved into progressively more diverse forms that are the monkeys and apes we see today.
Please don't take this as a personal slight but it amazes me that people find this concept tricky to grasp. I have had a clear understanding of the basics of our evolutionary heritage since I was 5 or 6 years old.

Monkeys- Have tails small Apes- Dont have tails larger We developed from previous worldwide monkeys that are all extinct of direction we and all the different apes alive in the present day are the alive descendants. additionally to conform from the previous worldwide monkeys have been the monkeys we see todays. So human beings, chimpanzees, gibbons etc (apes) and new worldwide monkeys the monkeys your customarily see in the present day the two sprung of in 2 different techniques you spot we at the instant are not on the topic of the hot worldwide monkeys we share an ancestors an exceedingly long some time past ok and that ancestor/ ancestors is extinct. additionally if human beings can proceed to exist why cant apes and monkeys. Like a relatives tree its no longer a million line rapidly down with one surviver a era there different offspring and it gets wider. You and your sibling are different yet comparable/appropriate human beings yet got here from a similar make certain. like apes and monkeys got here from a similar ancestor of the previous worldwide monkey. Now apes and human beings. I say race is not any differnce yet heres an occasion. a white couple have a 2 little ones the two little ones each and each have 2 little ones out of the 4 2 our mixed race 2 our white and those 4 have 2 each and each additionally 2 look organic black 2 mixed race 4 white the two who look organic black wont look like the 4 organic white and the mixed race 2 will look in between yet all of them share an ancestor all of them survived and not one of the 8 are an offspring of the different. comprehend how we at the instant are not descendants of any author residing in the present day yet share a specified ancestors with apes. Monkeys developed into apes while they got here down from a tree and gained evolution in a balancing without the elect of a tail issues no person is familiar with made this transformation as no person became into there to make certain. Our ape ancestor turnt into human beings in basic terms because of the fact they adapted to stroll then communicate direct and undertaking sparkling up final got here custom and those are the only modifications from us and something of the animal kingdom all of us comprehend this happened however the question is what made it happened what have been our ancestors doing and we will locate out.

why do you have cousins? it's the same question.
Forget monkeys, we are only distantly related to them. Apes are our cousins; in fact, we are a type of ape. We share a common ancestor with other apes like chimpanzees. Just like you share a common ancestor with your cousins.
anyway, even"intelligent design" (puh!) protagonists accept that lots of creatures evolved from fish. Why are there still fish? because there's still an ocean. Nature never leaves an evolutionary niche unfilled for long. If something can live that way, something probably will.

Erm people, we did descend from apes (not monkeys - different type of animal) .
But the answer about having a common ancestry but both apes and humans having evolved further in to what we are today is correct.

Because evolution occurs when populations are isolated from each other. Say a group of birds is isolated on an island. Over a (really) long time, they grow scales instead of feathers. The original group does not need to grow scales to adapt to their new environment, so they evolve in other ways. If the two groups are eventually reintroduced to each other, they'll still be different.
Edit: Though they're probably right, it probably was a common ancestor...in which case, the populations would still be isolated from each other and evolve into two distinct groups.

If most people from the Americas are descended from Europeans, why are there still Europeans?
I'm not an expert, but likely there was a common ancestor that split off into two branches - humans and other primates. If you were to define evolution in the form of a family tree, apes and suchlike would be the rough equivalent to our cousins.

For the same reason that you are!
(This question has been answered at least five times in recent days. Get real, please. Man did not evolve from monkeys and apes. Instead, all three evolved from a common ancestor. )

There's a missing DNA from monkey to human. So we didn't evolve from monkeys.
