A coppery dirt lane wandering up a slope topped by a large deciduous tree in full summer leaf on the right ride. On the other side of the slope, can't see but sense it is lined with smaller trees beginning to color. On either side, fields of grass that are still showing green but losing color, blades 6-8 inches long. Treeline in the distance. Blue sky with a few clouds. Sunlight slanted towards the west: early afternoon. Beginning of autumn.

My road is a narrow pathway through books and tapes and papers and notebooks. There is a dresser that holds summer clothes that I haven't put away yet off to the left and two large plastic drawers that hold the summer clothes from last year that I am too fat to get into on the right. There is an antique organ in the corner by the window and a drysink that my father made against one wall. At the crossroads of my path is a t.v. that I never watch. Through the windows, I can see the house next door and my birdfeeder that, at the moment, contains the last baby cardinals of the season, their feathers a mottled orange-red color and the topknot on their heads looking like a grown in crewcut.

A golden feild of wheat lies before me, the sun casts its rays upon it like golden tassles falling from the sky. Hills form in the distance, I can't quite make out the horizon. I have such a long
road ahead of me. Looking back at where I've come from, I can make out shadows. They form images in the forest that would put nightmares in the heart of any man. So far I've come, so long to go. The trail ahead is clear for now and the sun shines bright
A crow swarms overhead as if to remind me that I'm not out of troubled waters yet.

No longer can I smell the putred stench of death in the air. lavendar and spring take over, but the smell is faint. A breeze sweeps by as if to assure I'm heading in the right direction. I want to lay down and let my wounds heal but unfortunately I don't have the supplies

If I stop now I'll surely go hungry.

So I walk on, unfortunately this is a path that I've come across before. Fortunately, I know the way.

I see a freeway, running straight through town. There are entrance and exit ramps, cars merging into lanes, cars turning off, some cars are bright and shiny, new and pampered. Others are older, but still well preserved. A few are well past their prime, but still loved by their owners, and still able to drive on that road. Along this road, there are wrecks, but the emergency personnel are there, doing what they can, saving lives, praying for those who are gone. Such a busy road. So many cars, and each one unique.

I see a two lane road in an open field with some telephone poles further on. The road is black and is divided by yellow dash marks. The grass is long, and the sky is blue and sunny. there's a tree by my road. The ground isn't flat. Further on, by the telephone poles, there's a little hill.

It's a dry, dirt road. It's curvy and I can't see over the hill. I'm in the middle of nowhere...only grass around the road.

It's like a country road. It's sunny and there are the occasional trees on either side. It's quiet and lonely.

A simple black paved road... there's grass on both sides and tons of trees, with houses spread far apart from each other.
