If you can't find white doves, you can release butterflies which would also be nice.

I am so sorry for your loss.

May I just tell you something I heard about having doves at a ceremony. There was a programme about wedding planners on tv and someone wanted white doves in white cages outside the church. The bride and groom were to read or recite some romantic, prose and then the doves were to be released. Someone advised against it because doves are not homeing and they just fly out of the cages and are often found sitting on the windows of the nearby buildings and sometimes they just die out there because they are unable to find their way home. That is probably why they are so expensive to hire out. It was suggested that they find white homeing pigeons. They leave the cages and fly high and return home. Apart from the great difference in cost to hire.......the only difference is the doves have the broad tails that we see on cards and such, while the pigeons have a slender tail. I think I would prefer the white pigeons as they will safely return home. This was news to me so I thought I would just let you know. I was at a funeral where the greatgrand children each placed a rose on the casket in the grave after the prayers. The youngest had managed to break his and just had the head of the rose to place...it brought a smile and was so innocent and touching.
