Because a negative number is the "Opposite" of the value presented

-7 means opposite of 7

-7 * -7 = --49 (negative negative 49)

the opposite of -49 is +49

It's a law, or convention, in mathematics. You can, however, verify that the product of two negative numbers is a positive number: You can only divide a positive number with a negative number to derive a negative number.

because they go further in the same direction,so that is a positive. so when you asked did you have more, you well answer positive.
