I was on the phone with an IRS employee asking questions about filing a 1040x just as she began explaining the process my oldest son who IS MENTALLY HANDICAPPED was trying to get my attention, I tried to ask her for one moment to aknowledge him and she let me know I should not interrupt her if I wanted my question asked. After waiting on hold for 40-50 minutes I let her finish and apologized for the interruption, but let her know that I was not interrupting her, but shushing my 11 year old son. "If your son is 11 years old and doesn't know any better than to interrupt he either needs discipline or he is mentally handicapped"
I let her know that he was challenged before I burst into one of the worst crying fits I have had in years, I feel gutted, not for me, but for him. I have made calls to every # I can find to the IRS with a very concerned and calming rep who assures me I will be contacted ASAP. I have yet to hear from them. Is there anything I can do?

Should I try and consult with an attorney as well, thanks to your advice I am also contacting the offices of Congress in both the area of SA TX, where I currently reside and Louisiana (where I am from, own land and drive six hours for every election)

you vote, don't you?

write a letter to your congressmen and to your senators.

the IRS is used to riding roughshod over hard working, decent people and it needs to stop.

start a letter writing campaign! stress the fact that you VOTE and you need help!

does your local news station have an expose type segment? here in St Louis our Channel 2 has a feature called "Contact 2", where you call in complaints about this very sort of thing--and two members of the news team will show up at the offending person's office with a camera and start asking pointed questions. they get a lot of wrongs righted.

best of luck to you---you don't need a nameless, faceless grade 9 government flunkie giving you grief over the phone.

When you call your Congressman, the person who answers the phone will direct you in writing a letter to the Congressman and telling everything that has happened.
I assure you, you will get a response. When I wrote ours I got satisfaction from the outcome and a letter from the Congressman. So Call first and follow his/her directions but put everything of concern, or done into it.
They have a call list they have you on...so they will know you called and waiting for an answer. Keep a photo copy of your letter. Send original.

First of all, I hope you got the name and rep id number of the person who made that comment. That is uncalled for and they should be reprimanded for it. There is an (800) number that I've had to call in the past for several reasons and the wait time usually isn't that bad. 1-800-829-1040

If this is the number you called, perhaps you called them on a busy day. Try again and don't get discouraged.

Call your Congressman. I bet he just loves getting complaints about the insensitive clods who work for the IRS.
