Check out the Acer Aspire line of laptops, they are a great value and will get you pretty much everything you need.

Visit Circuit City or similar retail store and look at the different price points and features that best meet your needs.

Also check newegg.com I heard there is Acer Aspire on sale there for around $500 brand new.

I have an Acer Aspire 5003WLMi (for reference) and love it, I upgraded the memory to 750MB. I bought mine after buying my wife a lower end model, then my mother. So far we love them.

My personal advice is to buy a new laptop, they are more prone to damage than desktops, and for the money you CAN buy a good new one.

Good luck and happy laptop hunting.

I actually owned one years ago, well to think of it, I think I still have it somewhere in the closet. Was pretty good at the time-used it exactely for what you're planning to--mainly note taking and web surfing, it had 800Mhz, 256MB Ram, Win XP Pro etc etc pretty much the exact same thing you're looking at except I had the 14" screen version I think so thing was bigger and heavier. XP Pro and Office Pro fully loaded actually ran quite smoothly on it with just 256 MB Ram and 8MB vcard, the thing that bothered me was the heating...really hot where the air comes out, and the weight, the one I had was really heavy. I'd recommend it if it was your only choice but I'd think you can do ALOT better, for that price it's not worth it since I think I bought mine back then like 5 YEARS AGO at that same price around $400-500 on Ebay.

It pretty old hat and running windows xp pro with only 256mb of total memory will not help matters. You will get tired of it pretty quickly as it just will not do what you want quickly enough.

Another little hint. If you are asking people's advice on an ebay item I always think it is worth taking the time to type the details out again and not mentioning that you are looking on ebay. Say your friend is looking to sell you it as by telling everyone about it you are only likely to end up with more people bidding on it if it goods the thumbs up.

If I were you I would shop a little harder. That laptop will run very slow. I bought one about 6 months ago which had a 2.4 ghz processor and integrated wireless for 300. That would work, but (in my opinion at least) it would be too slow to really do anything with. I would look for something with at least 2ghz processor and 256mb of ram. If you look hard enough you should be able to find that for the same price range of what you are looking at there. Good luck!

LOOK at www.cnet.com

Not worth more than 500 used. I had one and it was repaired twice. Poor quality and prone to fail, especailly the video card and keypad. if you buy make sure you get the extended 3 year warranty, it will pay for itself and you will need it. Businesses don't buy this, and they have many people that use laptops daily.

Ummm...that is a brand I have never heard of. So...I don't know if it would be good or not. Probably for just taking notes in class. Take a look at these:

This one will probably go higher, but it is extrememly nice!

Pass on it. Not worth the parts it's made of. They're damage prone.

You are buying someone else's junk. Save some more money and buy a new one.
