My old Snapper Comet rear engine lawn mower won't climb even the slightest grade anymore. It seems the drive system is slipping. Anybody ever work on this problem?

your tractor is made to be flipped on end, flip it up. underneath there is a rubber wheel loosen a few bolts to remove it. get a replacement drive ring from the mower shop or on-line you will need to readjust the drive cable when you install the new one. OH and before you touch anything make sure your friction disc has no oil on it from engine oil leaks sometimes the sump gasket or crankshaft seal will leak oil on these parts causing them to slip. If thats the case you will need to determine how much the mower is worth to you.

I had the same problem. It seems if you log on many miles, the drive train will wear out. Mine was totally gone before I tried to fix it. Unfortunately, I would have had to replace it, and it would have cost me almost as much as a new mower.

Sounds like yours is still running. See if servicing alone can take care of the issue.

Best of luck.
