I am in the process of filing unemployment claim and recieved some paper work telling me that I had been working for a certain company although I have never heard of them before. Apparently someone has been using my social security number. How do I stop this person from using my info?

I highly recommend getting some credit monitoring that way you will know about changes in your credit file right away.

Assuming you're in the U.S., contact all three of the credit reporting agencies (Equifax, TransUnion and Experian).

It may not actually be Identity Theft if the only evidence is the employment record. Someone at the employer's office may have just typed in an incorrect SS number. If you know the name of the employer, try to contact them and ask them why they're using your SS#.

Regardless, contact the credit reporting agencies and tell them what's happened. They may be able to provide you with information about the employer and help you get it straightened out.

In what country? You need to tell social security and your bank - and the IRS Inland revenue and they will cross reference your social security number with your other details. You could get her wages paid in to your bank account! LOL
