for the project, maybe a scale model of the solar system mightbe fun, I have seen a few and made one myself as a kid

for college, you go at least 4 years, then you either luck out and find a really good astrophysics job, or you go wash dishes or something like that

nasa.gov has good pictures... doing a yahoo image search will also usually give good results if you know what you are looking for.

When it comes to college, no a four year (bachelors) degree will not get you an astrophysics job. An astrophysics or physics major will be best, I've been told astronomy majors are a bad idea (make it a minor if you major in physics).

After that you will definately need a graduate degree. Everyone I've spoken to in the feild says a masters isn't enough, you need a doctorate to have any kind of job security. Think about it this way: the world doesn't need a bunch of "just-ok" astrophysicists the way it needs tons of "just-ok" plumbers. So you will be in school for years and years but at least it is an interesting field!

If you have to collect information about astronomy, I recommend that you go to your public library. There are two books that I recommend for your reading: 1.) Norton's Sky Atlas. This atlas has much vital information about the planets and galaxies and the stars. .2) Burnhams Celestrial Handbook. This handbook comes in three volumes and is without doubt the most useful tool in gaining the knowledge of Astronomy. This three-volume set is filled with photographs, and will meet your every need to fulfill your project. Good Luck and have fun. You can also get valuable information from the internet. Just type "astronomy" in your search engine.

Most astronomers actually begin studying at home, in their back yards with a telescope, bincoulars etc.

If you're in an urban area, you might want to consider looking for local astronomical societies, and begin to associate with them; they typically organise field trips to locations where you can observe the night sky, visits to observatories and planetaria and visits to local educational establishments' astronomical facilities.

Your best bet is to develop your social networking skills through joining such an amateur society.

I've included some "beginning astronomy" links below. This is the sort of stuff the young Carl Sagan and Richard Feynman would have had to struggle to find. Now, it's a google click away.

Gods bless the internet.

And good luck.

It took me 4 years to get a Bachelor of Science degree in Astrophysics at the Institue of Technology, University of Minnesota. Lots of math and science classes required.

Space.com is a good web site for pics, etc.

A cool stellar object is a kind of star called a Wolf-Rayet star (pronounced wolf ray). They are pretty big, about 20 solar masses or so. They have very high rates of mass-loss and very fast solar winds. I did a presentation on them back in college (6+ years ago) and if I remember right, they lose several solar masses in gas every year.

Don't really understand your question but it is clear you are missing the point! I'm guessing you've been set some work and are feeling the frustration we have all felt at times of simply not having the slightest clue what you are supposed to do!

If you really don't understand your assignment go back and get some clarity from your tutor - happens all the time in real life I promise. If you do understand it then put more detail in your question and you'll probably get some quality answers that will help you find what you're looking for.

Good luck!
