Squirrels.
The red ones are native to Britain and the grey ones are native to America.
In recent years however, the grey ones have become introduced into Britain, and their presence is slowly pushing the red squirrels to the brink of extinction.
They greys aren't killing he reds. Far from it.
Instead, the greys are moving into their territory, and as they're bigger and stronger, they're using up all the resources and gradually, the reds are being starved out.
Quite sad realy.
It almost holds up an ironic mirror to the real world, don't you think?
In an interesting twist, there have been many sightings in Britain recently of grey squirrels with red heads or tails.
So it looks like the two species are actualy starting to interbreed.
So in reality, the species isn't going extinct.
It's actually in the process of making an evolutionary leap in accordance with Darwinnian principles.
Absolutely fascinating.

The Squirrel. There are two types, the native Red Squirrel and the American Grey. The Grey being the larger and More aggressive can not live with the smaller Red so when it meets any of the native Reds it kills them.
Unfortunately the Reds are now in danger of becoming extinct having become overrun by the invaders. Both are quite destructive to their environment damaging flora and fauna which affects the local population.
There are conservation attempts underway with small pockets of Reds increasing their numbers and fighting back.Lets hope they can continue until they are out of danger.
