i see the relpies, thank you all very much. ive been drinking the pure cranberry juice, but its just been helping mask the symptoms. also ive been taking some otc herbal stuff which helps. i would like to get antibiotics but have no insurance. i have some antibiotics previous perscribed to me, but have been well advised not to take them for this since they were perscribed for something else (sinus infection), and ive taken antibiotics in the last 6 months. the azo is great but FYI ive gone to the docs while on it and they couldnt test me since it turns your pee orange/red. ill try the alka seltzer and the silver. anyone heard of uba urse(sp), d-mannose (sugar in cranberry) or parsley tea as home cures? thanks again for the help guys, ive already been in the hospital for a week w/ a kindey infection, i cant afford to do anymore damage.

someone already answered your question correctly.
cranberry juice is PREVENTIVE therapy..... not a treatment. You need antibiotics for an active infection.

Please do not play with your health.

Cranberry juice works but it is also very acidic which can irritate your bladder even more so you should pick up some cranberry extract pills from the pharmacy, they should be in the vitamins and supplements section. If it carries on for more than a couple of days I would recommend going to the doctor and having a test done to see if it is indeed a UTI, sometimes frequency in urinating and burning sensation can be an indication of a greater problem like interstitial cystitis or kidney problems. Another thing to remember is to go pee whenever you feel you need to, don't hold it in, and be sure to pee before and after sex, sounds strange but you have no idea what kind of bacteria could be around that area. Use your best judgement, you know your body best.

There's relief you can buy over the counter, like AZO. You can also try drinking LOTS of cranberry juice. But the best way to get rid of it is to go see your Dr. and get an rx for an antibiotic called macrobid (or it's generic)-It's the only sure fire way tp get rid of it for good. To prevent these in the future, ALWAYS pee after sex and wipe from front to back. You can also take a cranberry supplement. Good luck.

My best home remedy is colloidal silver. My UTI's hit like a freight train, and when I get them I take an ounce of silver every hour with some juice or water to get it in the bladder and my symptoms will disappear after 3 hours or so. My daughter has spina bifida and gets UTI's chronically and it works great for her also. Alot of people have their own opinions on CS, but I have tons of testimonials from my own family and tons of friends on how great it works for everything from diaper rash to pinkeye to the stomach flu. (IT WILL NOT TURN YOU BLUE).

Or you can take cranberry chewables, with Vitamin C ascorbate (to keep your bladder acidic) and go to your local herb shop and ask for D-mannose. It flushes e-coli out of your bladder, Hope any of this helps:)

Drinking lots of cranberry juice helps. I believe they also sell tablets over the counter at drug stores, although if your symptoms worsen it would be a good idea to see your doctor.

Cranberry juice has some mild preventative effect, but if you've got an active infection, it's too late. You will need to get an antibiotic to treat it effectively.

I've had good results from taking Alka Seltzer, two tablets in six ounces of water every six hours for 24 hours.
