I just added a new tricolor ink cartridge into my HP OfficeJet G55 printer. When turned back on, it said to press ENTER for cartridge alignment. Whenever I did, it would fail and the paper would come out half done. I don't know what to do. I can still print, but only the pink color works. I have checked, and it seems that the cartridges are installed correctly. Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad cartridge. If it's a refill I would highly suspect it. Also check to make sure the reader stip is clean in your machine. It's a clear strip that you can see running across the inside of the printer. Use a dampened with water paper towel of similar. Be careful as they are fragile. The reader strip is have the carriage holding your ink cartridges knows where it is. There is a photo eye in the rear of carriage that sees and counts each of those tiny lines on the strip so that it always knows where the carriage is located. That.s why it always starts at the edge of the printer. You'll see a much bigger dot on each end that is the start and end spot. If the reader strip is dirty the carriage will get confused as to where it is and cause you all kinds of headaches. Hope this helps.

There is also a known glitch in the electronics for the HP G55 and other older multifunction inkjets. If your machine picks up paper quick and then goes right to paperjam when your making copies, turn off or unplug the machine. When you turn it back on change the print quality from "normal" to "best or draft" You'll usually only see the glitch when copying in black on normal quality.

I run a "Cannon i120", which is not the same. But all printers operate pretty much the same with your pc.

1) make sure that you have the cartridge installed correct. The gold contacts on the cartridge must touch the contacts in the slot for the black and the one for color.

2) When you remove both cartridges and the print is still not aligned you may have to reinstall the printer with the disk that came with the printer.

3) make sure that the jack to your processor is removed and only reinstall the jack when directed to by the wizard printer installer.

Hope this resolves your problem.

It means that the printhead on the cartridge might be faulty that it cannot be aligned properly. In that case, if this is a brand new cartridge, you might want to take it back to the store or call HP tech support to get a new one.
