This is actually a class project where we have to present tricks that have physics concepts behind them. Can you suggest some? I appreciate it very much.

Do they have to be things you understand and can explain? I can recommend two that are -sort of- physics tricks:

LIQUID NITROGEN. You can get a bunch of this stuff from a scientific supply store (look in your phone book) and then have fun freezing stuff in it and shattering it on tables. Or put inflated balloons in it and when they deflate explain the whole temperatue-volume thing with gases (the ideal gas law).

TESLA COIL. Nikola Tesla experimented with very-high frequency and voltage flows of electricity. With a bit of nosing around, you might be able to track one down... I wouldn't recommend building it yourself. Using a tesla coil, you can light flourescent tubes at a distance or even conduct the current through yourself (or a volunteer) - at such a high frequency the electric current is harmless.

I've done demonstrations with both of these in the past and they were definitely crowd-pleasers. Hope that helps!

Blow up a balloon and place small pieces of clear tape on it.

Insert pins into the balloon through the tape and then withdraw them. The balloon will neither pop, nor shrink (quickly...).

The air pressure inside the balloon is greater than that outside the balloon. When the pin is pulled out of the balloon, the airpressure inside pushes some of the glue (adhesive) from the tape into the hole and plugs it.

Vacuum cleaner and a ping pong ball. Put the cleaner on blow and point the nozzle vertically upwards. Place the ball an inch or 2 above the blowing nozzle. You'd expect it to get blown away wouldn't you. Explain what actually happens!!!
