Slope is defined as increase in Y for a unit of change in X

M=(y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

If the line is 45 degrees, as you move toward the right (for example) 1 unit, the line will increase by 1 vertically. That makes it slope of 1.

m (slope) is 1 because your going up 1 and over 1 each time to make it a 45 degree angle I hope this helped!
