there is going to be pain of course....it is your tongue but honestly it is sooooo fast...they put the clamps on it which gives it a little pinch at first(the clamp is so the can hold out your tongue) the guy that pierced me did the clamps kind of tight and let it hang out of my mouth which actually numbed it a little. he then said he was going to count to three...he said one....two...ok your done...you'll be fine..but AS LONG AS YOU TAKE CARE OF IT!!!Make sure you use your mouth wash and do not eat real food cause mine got infected and it hurt really bad...and it is really nasty too

First things first... if you've had anything else pierced you can handle having your tongue done.
It's not any more painful than any other piercing. It hurts for a second and is then over. You will swell afterwards and dealing with that is the most painful. Lots of Tylenol/Advil and plenty of popsicles... also I wouldn't plan on a regular diet for the first 3 days afterward. I lived off mashed taters and other soft foods. Popsicles were awesome cause they help with the swelling.
As for comments about how bad it is for your teeth. Well, the biggest concern is biting the shaft. I had my piercer use a plastic ball on the top so if I bite it the ball would break instead of chipping a tooth. But after I got use to it I switched to a metal ball on the top. There is a chance that you can chip a tooth on the piercing. So if you are concerned about your teeth you may not want to get the peircing. I had mine for almost 7 years and then chipped a small corner off one of my teeth (not enough to require a dentist visit, but I was still bummed). That's why I took mine out... I'd rather keep my nice looking teeth.
But if you're not worried about it... go for it.

well more than likely you are goin to not be able to do it without the pain. when i got my tongue pierced, the procedure didnt hurt. It was a bit shocking, but no pain. It is a wierd experience. But the healing is the hard part. Not only can you not talk, you really cant eat a whole lot without bein in pain. I mean everyone heals differently, but I wasnt completely healed for about 3 weeks and the pain was excruciating at times. Also if you have a job or are tryin to hide it from parents, def wouldnt advise it because your voice changes!! but it is a fun piercing. I mean i think it was worth it but I was also 19 years old and didnt have a care!!! Good luck with your decision and remember you can always take it out!

there's no need to be scared. the best thing to do is go online and research the facts, look at pictures of other people's tongue piercings and maybe if you're really scared about it go tlak to the local piercer and see what their overall opinion is. I know the tongue heals insanely fast so that is a pro. I've been told it doesn't hurt as much as other piercings. But if you want it to heal correctly you will be prohibited form eating certain solid foods for X ammount of time (having not gotten my tongue pierced i can't tell you). My friend got her labret pierced (right below your lip) and the healing time for that was likea month or more. (she never listened to the rules).
here is a good dictionary explanation of tongue piercing for you
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue_piercing
just make sure that if you are nervous about it or scared in anyway to do the research before making the investment. PIercings are much easier to keep in than take out. Make sure you know what you want before you do it, or you'll probably regret your decision

I have to tell you my husband has had this done for a long time now. He used to be someone who would faint at the doctor(though he would never tell anyone that) and he got his tongue pierced no problem. If you really want to do this do it now while you are young. You actually become more sensitive to pain as you get older.

I am 22 yrs. old and I have had my toung pierced since I was 16. There are lots of +'s and lots of -'s. It does ruin your teeth. And depending on how you are on pain.... Is how bad it hurts.. I didn't think that it hurt... but I am now to a 4 gage. If you do decide to get it... you absoutely must follow all of the instrustions for cleaning and maintenance of your your new toy... I don't know what else to tell you except if you want it that bad.... get some balls and go get it done.

I think you should think about why you want to do something that scares you, just because you want to follow the crowd. Do you think this will make you cool? It makes you talk funny and you will tire of it and take it out anyway. I just don't get it. I think it would be foolish and a waste of money.
