Sadly enough, it continues after school and through out life. I think it is a terrible way to judge people because they may not have the means to look as good as other people. My advice would be to hold your head up and remember that what comes around really does go around. I think it was worse years ago than it is today. When I was going to school kids didn't drive nice cars and we all had to pile in one luck friends car to get around. Feelings are important and I we should learn at a young age [if possible] that we shouldn't go out of our way to make a person feel bad, if you are concerned about a persons image, at least try to do it in a non aggressive way.

In case you haven't noticed, some people have contributed great things in this world- music, art, writing. Then there are people who have added to the world just by their personality or by always doing what seems the right thing.
I think some people , after all their hard work that often ends with little material reward, might feel entitled to look down on some career criminal who wins the lottery, to use an extreme example.

Because to see the value in other people, no matter how different they are from you takes a very secure person. Looking down at others is the way people protect themselves from their own failings

I have news for you. That type of thing doesn't go away in life even as you go through adulthood. I would say that you should be your own man/ woman. Be independent and friendly at the same time. Avoid the gossip. Be above it. Be a better person than they are. Character counts for alot. It counts for alot than most people know. There is nothing wrong with being a lone wolf. It is the American spirit.

Pack behavior is a primitive stage of human development, as a species or as an individual. The more feeble-minded and fearful a person is on their learning curve, the more likely they need pack support for validation. Seek the company and acceptance of more evolved humans.

the answer amounts to lack of "SELF"-esteem. Most people don't have any. Whatever esteem they have comes from without instead of from within. Ergo they buy the expensive cars or the expensive breed dogs or they look down on another person who in their minds does not "have" what material possessions, physical attributes, or perceived intelligence that they have. Looking down on other people allows them to have more esteem than they had before. The problem is that it isn't "SELF"-esteem.

Sometimes I think that they feel bad about themselves and the only way they can feel good it to TRY to make others look badly. It is not a nice way to go through life. Keep your chin up In the meantime and be your self. Do not let them get you down.

Because they are very very insecure and looking down at other people makes them temporarily feel better about who they are, and who they aren't. Secure, healthy people don't need to look down on others; they are confident in who they are. When people look down on others, it clearly shows them to have an insecurity issue-- if they knew how obvious it was, maybe they'd stop doing it LOL
People who do that don't realize that it's like they're wearing a BIG sign that says INSECURE -AFRAID- LACK CONFIDENCE- DON'T LIKE MYSELF.

What do you mean by "still"?
Are you under some illusory belief that life is not life forever?
The individual is capable of changing, and as a consequence, that individual pulls some others with him/her, but the vast majority remain as they have always been. Barely a cut above animals... which many are destined to reincarnate as.
