see other doctor, preferably a specialist, right away. i never trust one man's opinion and neither should you.

Depending on the grade of the sprain it may hurt more than a broken bone. Sprains are graded in three degrees, and a third grade spain is worse than a broken bone. I’ve had both in my foot. The broken foot was in a cast for 4 weeks and the sprain for 6 weeks.

As long as you had an x-ray and it was read by a qualified radiologist, then it should not be broken. some sprains can be more painful than breaks. also torn ligaments and tendons can not be seen on an x-ray. an orthopedic (bone doctor) would be a good specialist to follow-up with. I hope you are feeling better soon.

If the doctor took xrays and there were no fractures, then I would tend to believe him. Wrap the foot in an ace wrap, apply ice. If it isn't better after 24hours of ice and elevation, then see another doctor.
