i have a BMW 535i automatic 1990 and the EML light in the middle of the dash clocks keeps coming on does anyone know why and what i can do as it is really bugging me

That clock is a trip computer and does all kinds of things Most of which I forgot. Go on line the good people who belong to BMWCCA rondel.com should be able to tell you what to do

Take it to your dealer or to a certified German/BMW auto mechanic. You cannot let warning lights go unheeded in a BMW as they definitely come on for a real reason and if left unattended, could mean real damage.

I think the transmission needs some kind of service - like some emergency service. The transmission may be DOA.
