To convert a Word document to PDF I think you will have to buy software like "Acrobat." Pricey.
To convert PDF to Word, not so bad. A couple of things come to mind.
If you are sending it as an attachment, why do you need to convert it to PDF? Doesn't the recipient have Word? If not, in that case, save the document to a text file. Formatting may be lost (bold, underlines, etc.) but the text will all be there.
Word Document:
File
Save AS
Indicate where to save, give it a name, for type - click the down arrow and select "MS DOS text with line breaks."
If the document is less than 10mb, you could send as inline text.
From Yahoo Mail, click Options, General Preferences. click "Forward as Inline Text."

Exactly how large is the document? Even if you have a broadband connection there is usually a size limit to what you can send as an attachment - check with your ISP first!

Act like you are going to print your document. And when the print box comes up, change the area where you choose your printer to "Adobe PDF".
