for some, it upsets their artificial view of themselves
the unknown is scary
if the known is scary, maybe it'll go away if we ignore it
[ like the monsters hiding under your bed]
easier that way....requires less thinking, and thinking is harder than emotional responses
reality is too, too ugly to face
any number of reasons

most people don't want the truth / reality. reality is the most feared thing . the truth hurts .
