I work for a major auto manufacturer, and was surprised to learn that my company does not offer any paid time off. Would love to hear about other companies' policies.

I know about unpaid leave under FMLA, but was wondering about whether companies provide this benefit. You would think they should give the dad at least a week off!

No they do not. Only a few do at this time. I had the numbers at one time, and Forbes publishes this type information once a year, I think under the best 100 companies to work for issue.

The Family and Medical Leave Act, allows for non-paid time off for child birth.

There is no law in the US which provides for paid leaves of absence. It is a perogative of management to provide such benefits to employees.

The FMLA only protects the employee from losing his/her job.

Most offer time under the FMLA but it is not paid unless you use your vacation time.

don't think they do. after all, it's the woman who does all the work so she's the one that gets the time off, not the man. never heard of ANY company offering time off for newbie dads.
