and it hurts a lot. I'm just me... I'm honest and friendly and open. I try to be humours and funny and informative.
It's bad enought that my kids make fun of me, to hear that their friends and parents call me a kook really hurts.
Its it just the age and THEIR parents are odd or is it really me?

I found out by coming up to 2 of them talking that one told the other that THEY had come up to THEIR friends talking about me, and wanted to know how THEIR conversation ended up talking about "her mom".

hopefully last addition: I'm a pushover and my husband is a controlling bully. I try to put my kids in their place the best I can, but kinda hard when Daddy insults me too and that's what they learned.

sounds like an age thing. I LOVE LOVE my mom and my dad, but for some reason, it was cool at that age to be disrespectful about your parents. Most kids do it, even though they genuinely do love and respect their parents. It sounds like peer pressure to me. As far as the immaturity of their parents, sounds like their parents are insecure and would rather fit in with their kids in making fun of you than have their kids making fun of them. Ridiculous, yes! They need to grow up.

If they are making fun of you to your face, that is overboard disrespectful, and it needs to be addressed and dealt with. The normality that I am referring to is the behind the back "My mom is so lame, she won't let me do this" etc kind of thing.

YOUR kids are making fun of you? Oh honey, I think I would go ballistic. You can't be their friend all the time and they need to show you the respect a parent deserves for being a parent! It's time you put your foot down on this one. It's rude and shows a lack of proper upbringing (not knocking you, I promise...just sometimes friends can be a bad influence).

I understand, you enjoying being friendly and funny without making humor off making fun of other people and some people enjoy that. That usually means they have a low self esteem. Instead of figuring out what is wrong with them they make fun of other people.

your kids are going to make fun of you for something no matter what..... they're teenagers... as far as their parents go... guess what... their kids are making fun of them too... they just haven't found out.... So what if you're a little excentric... you are who you are... I applaud you for being an original... my parents were boring growing up (just now showing a little more of their "fun" side now that all their kids are out of the house) So long as you're not jumping on couches and preaching scientology like Tom Cruise, I'd say brush yourself off and remind yourself that you're better than that....
p.s. grow a backbone..... if their dad makes fun of you, stand up for yourself. infront of them. (don't go all balistic, just a simple "hey, that's enough" should do.) be stern

How did you "find this out"? If you "found out" from your own children it is likely you are being lied to--this is one of the oldest manipulation schemes in the book--make your parents feels so weird and wrong that "everyone laughs at them" to try and get you to give more freedoms, etc.

If you are comfortable with who you are, do not care what others say or do. Usually, people taunt people like you because they are jealous of your ability to be so carefree. You sound like a fun and great person, keep being you and if they make you feel uncomfortable, get new friends.
