I am American but my parents are Paki. My dad is very light skinned, so is my mom and my sister is like Ivory- but I am the only one in my family that is tan. I dont look related to them. I am about NC42 in MAC and W6 in L'Oreal True Match. What should I do?

You're beautiful just the way you are. Don't go in for all that skin-whitening stuff, because you might end up getting more than you bargined for. Sure, you might look fairer, but no one knows the long-term effects.

It's strange how we always yearn for what we don't have. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

My skin tone is a golden brown, and I love it. Everyone one I meet loves my skin tone.

Oh Lord! And I thought this only affected black people!!

Why would you want to look "white" because your immediate family is 'lighter-skinned' than yourself??? I think this is a very sad, sad question to be posted on here (although not the saddest I've seen to date!). As a black person, "colorism" is something that we've been dealing with in this country for centuries; a mental condition perpertrated and inflicted on "people of color", not just here, but all over the world. I think you are a victim of mass media, MTV, and other publications in this country that constantly bombard us with the "white standard of beauty" or white skin, straight hair, blonde/blue eyes, thinness, etc., etc.

In your case, I think it would be too generic just to say "accept yourself" because that's going to take YEARS to accomplish...

Have you ever wondered why white people want "tanned" skin, bigger lips (lip plump), bigger butts, and other mess and will damn-near kill themselves to get them??? And the misery continues in Africa where people are literally poisoning themselves and getting cancer trying to achieve a "whiter, brighter" complexion....

Accept your beautiful skin tone! I am so pale, I would love to have some color. Thre is nothing you can do to change your skin tone, so just learn to love it. My daughter came out much darker than my husband and I, I think she's beautiful just the way she is and I hope she doesn't want to change her skin tone.
