My husband has a three year old daughter. I love her like she was my own. I first met her several months after my husband and I began dating. (Sadly we rarely see her because of her mother). She was one when we first met, and she called me "Momma" from then on out. I mean she knew my name because you could ask her it and she'd tell you my name, but she chose to call me "Momma". We get her MAYBE 10 weekends total out of a year! The last time we get her it had been 11 months since we last saw her. My husband and her have an amazing relationship no matter how little they get to see each other, now that we are married ( And going to court to get vistions) I'm a little worried about how to start a solid relationship with her. Any advice?

Start off with a 'pimpslap' and a 'wicked backhand' to her grill! That'll make her respect you!
Just kidding - start with an exciting fun activity, like waterworld or an icecream parlor.

keep doing what you're doing.. watch on letting her call you mamma though.... I'm a step mom and would give my life for my step daughter.... but out of respect for the woman who gave birth to her, and out of respect to the sanctity of family, I have gently corrected my step daughter when she calls me mommy. (i.e. I'll say, "I'm not mommy, i'm rachael, but i love you just as much" followed by tons of kisses.) Continue loving her but don't put yourself up against that child's mother.... have respect for her and perhaps she might have respect for you.

sure, I was a foster parent for 20 years or so.
BE A FRIEND, show a geuine interest in what she says and don't compete. Love. Worked for me for sure.
