What happens if a Congressman gets elected for president, but still has let's say 4 years left in his term? Does he/she just pick a replacement for the next 4 years? Is there another election?
Thanks

yeah, I know that they become president, who replaces them was my question. Like in the Kerry instance, what would have happened to their senator

The Party that they are from puts forth a candidate for replacement. The Governor of the State he represented will ultimately choose the replacement congressman. He(the current Congressman) then gets to spend at least 4 years in office finding out how annoying he was to a sitting President.....

1st, congressmen & women serve 2 year terms, Senators serve 6 year terms, and lets say a senator has 4 year left on his term then the Governor of that state appoints a replacement to complete the term.
