My new doctor has prescribed Ortho Tri-Cyclen for me and I am curious if there is anyone who has NOT had any problems with weight gain on this pill. I have used Yasmine in the past and loved it but the new clinic I am going to does not carry this pill. I have also read that this pill has multiple stages of hormones which makes me think that it would really mess with a persons moods. If I feel like they are messing with me how long should I give it before trying a new pill out?

I took Ortho for 3 years and loved it! I would take it at night before I went to bed, and I felt no side effects. It really made my periods lighter, and my acne went away as well. I never gained weight either.

It's recomended that you give any new hormonal birth control pill at least 3 months before you switch, this way you can really see how it's affecting your moods, what your reaction to it is, and if you want to change. Ortho also comes in a "low-dose" as well, if you feel the hormone cocktail in regular is too much.

I am not sure if I gained a few pounds because of the pill or because of my mom's good cooking--she visited for 2 months from Russia and cooked all the good stuff all the time.
But I used to use the Patch, and it was great, except for the mood swings... I have been using the pill since March of this year, it is great too and my mood swings have subsided. But I did get 2-4 pounds... and I do not exercise...
I would suggest trying it. If you gain weight, then switch to something else. The pill also comes low-hormone form. Try to eat and exercise the same as you are doing Right now, so that you know for sure that the pill is causing weight gain and not something else.
Good luck!

I would try it out for one cycle unless major symptoms arise. I have been on Ortho TC before and yes your moods do change. Also your arousal is much decreased. I did not experience weight gain though, and I haven't with any other pills.

I had pretty good luck with it for several years., I did notice getting moodier, but no problem with weight gain. Just eat right and no pill should make you gain weight. Give it at least 6 months to get your body used to it. Switching pills can be the worst thing to do with your body.

I used it for several years without any problems. Most oral contraceptives make me sick to my stomach, but this one was the only one that didn't.
