I have learned that writer’s block is a myth. Most of the time, when great idea “comes” to me, it is because I have trained myself to dream up new ideas. They come from news stories that I have twisted, music lyrics that open up a new world, or just seeing things happening in front of my face and elaborating.

Here are a few exercises that can help you:

1.Timed free writing – spend 10 minutes writing whatever comes to your mind. WHATEVER, that means anything at all, you just write it. Maybe put on some music while you write…but music that you usually don’t have on the radio. Maybe even talk radio will get you thinking in new ways.
2.Rewriting – take a chapter out of your favorite book and rewrite it. Change the shape of the story, the actions of the characters, work something that will bring a whole new outcome to the book.
3.People Watching – take a notebook and sit in a public place to watch people as they go by. Make notes on who you think they are, and where they are going. Use their descriptions to build a small story about why they walked by the spot where you are sitting.

I hope to read something by you in the future (though I won’t know that its you unless you write it under the pen name marilynmonroe1515.)

The more you read, the more you want to write. At least it works for me. :) When I'm planning to do some writing, I read a good book by a popular, good author like Dean Koontz. Sometimes the content will give you some ideas of your own.

I've been writing since I could hold a pencil, and my reason for starting was because I would read a story and be unhappy with the way it ended, so I started writing my own endings. It developed into a career. :)

You could join a yahoogroup and get some tips. There are plenty for creative writers! :)

I have a wirebound 50 cent notebook that I scribble little snippets of ideas into. I get ideas from all sorts of places. You should try it. Inspiration could come from anywhere. I once got an idea from part of a t.v. commercial and it turned out great.

Just write a line, any line and then just keep writing, whatever comes to your mind, let the words flow out, its a great feeling.

Two ideas....

Go somewhere pretty and peaceful and just let the mind wander....

Put a notepad beside your bed. Whenever you wake up write down whatever parts of a dream you can remember.

Read the newspaper and watch the news. The most compelling stories come from real life situations.

Punctuation's discipline will unblock you. Just write and see what comes. Pencil and paper, not computer is all that works for me.
