Twin cities are two cities that are geographically close to each other and may seem to form a single unit, often referred to collectively.

The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and the surrounding area is the most highly populated area in Minnesota and the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the United States as of the 2000 census. Both built along the Mississippi River, Minneapolis is the largest city in the state, and St. Paul is the second largest and also the capital of Minnesota. There are other places around the world that are considered twin cities, but Minneapolis-St. Paul is one of the best known.

Minneapolis and St. Paul, located in Minnesota. I can't be sure EXACTLY why they call them the twin cities, since they are nothing alike at all. They do share the same international airport, and a river which separates them as well. Maybe this moniker comes from the early days of the Minnesota Twins baseball team? Though I think it's actually the reverse. While St. Paul is in fact our capitol, Minneapolis is MUCH larger in terms of it's downtown.

This article is about cities geographically close together; see town twinning and the list of twin towns and sister cities for distant cities linked in a partnership (often called "sister cities"). See Twin Cities (note capitalization) for the metropolitan area of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Minneapolis and St. Paul are the twin cities. They are called the twin cities because the are basically mirror images of each other in design, population and other factors.

There are at least 4 sets of cities in the US which call themselves the Twin Cities, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN, and Lafayette and North Lafayette, IN. They call them that because even though they started out as separate cities, they have grown up into one large metropolis, like Raleigh-Durham.

Minneapolis and St Paul. They are both on the Mississippi River across from each other in Minnesota. When the winters get cold in that part of the US the people who are stuck in their houses because of snow have nothing better to do than make up weird names for pairs of cities.

There are many "twin cities", Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario;
Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minnesota;
Dallas-Ft.Worth, Texas
They are called this because they are politically separate cities that geographically abut each other, separated only by a line on the pavement.
