I often see 'lads mags' like Nuts and FHM displaying naked or half naked girls on their covers, generally touching erotically. I am a sixteen year old boy, but i feel that these magazines are a form of soft pornography, as they are often on open display in shops and newsagents. Does anyone agree?

Maybe their content is a form of soft pornography but then so is the content of girls mags like Cosmo and More. There are plenty of half naked men on display in these magazines, and probably even more articles about sex than in lad's mags. What is wrong with both male and female bodies being visible on the front of magazines? So long as they're not engaged in a sex act then it's just naked human bodies. That isn't something that must be hidden from people-even children, because nakedness is nothign to be ashamed of.

No, this is not porn but 'fun' to look at if you're 16 i spose.

I've worked for a couple of magazines and the argument always comes down to this.
Womens and girls magazines havent exactly been subjude themsevles.
Mens magazines Do have a lot of flesh on show, but only because thats selling them, big deal it aint porn.
And if you did want porn im sure you'd know where to get it.

Nothing in Zoo etc is nothing you wont hear your average 'lad' chatting about in the playground/pub etc.

Its harmless fun and nothing more,
The irony of the situation is that women have had heat magazine for a few years now,
and now its the blokes who have the choice of two of the flipping things!

on a similar time as I agree that the 'working type' is under represented between politicians, there have been, and nevertheless are particularly an outstanding variety of well-known 'working type' politicians contained in the united kingdom Parliament - in all probability a a lot larger % than in US politics. it relatively is by using fact we've marketing campaign spending limits contained in the united kingdom, plus the Labour celebration in susceptible to decide on 'working type' applicants, in spite of the indisputable fact that via no potential all of them of course. learn and assessment the social origins of Dennis Skinner and Tony Benn. in spite of the indisputable fact that the Conservative celebration has a tendency to undertake candidate from center or larger classes, they have had some well-known working type human beings too, consisting of John significant and David Davies.

I think they should be out of reach of children's eyes as they are not suitable for young children to see. Some of them are slightly pornographic as you mentioned. However I don't disagree with them as they are suitable for young lads who are curious about the female body and sex. Some of the girls on the cover are a bit revealing but hey it's a bloke magazine what do you expect.

It's probably not as strong as porno, but the amount of these mags is increasing. Some shops, like WHS cover them over with an opaque coating to stop snoopers!

If it gets you hard it's porno, so I guess lads mags aren't.
But I think they should be on the top shelf and have an age restriction, although if I was still 15 I might disagree!!!

Yes, but it's usually what I would call "soft" porn

There has to be a fine balance between what is acceptable and what's outlawed by the law.

I do wonder why those who have committed violence are often treat ed less harshly than those convicted of pornography - I'm NOT advocating lessor sentences for porn but greater punishment for nasty crimes of violence (even murder!)

I completely agree. I don't mind that they exist (I'm a girl) but I agree that they're classified in the wrong section on newsstands. They're really soft porn disguised as a normal magazine because they claim to have articles in them. But Playboy has award-winning journalists writing for them and they don't try to fool people into believing that's the only reason why guys buy it.

No I wouldnt think it would be classed as porn. Lad mags cater to what males like in the most 'conservative' way they can possibly get away with.
