A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference in London that included admirals from the U.S., England, Canada, Australia and France.
At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a group of half a
dozen or so officers that included personnel from most of the countries that
were at the conference.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks. But a
French Admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many
languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that we
always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?"
Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied,
"Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German."
Suddenly the group became quiet.

Same reason they won't do anything about border security. Nobody wishes to piss of voters this close to election day.
Naturalized citizens vote in a higher percentage than any other demographic, so while fewer in number, they are a great deal of the actual voters. And politicians don't care about bloggers who sit all day in their mother's basement talking all day long about how bad things are, they care about people who leave their home and vote.

Because the world as we know it is not American, English or anything that a normal American would expect. It is Spanish to define or express that English is the LANGUAGE we should use would cause grave problems in the states. For example, I live in Los Angeles, CA. If this passed all of Koren Town, and China Town would have to change all of there signs. Not just in LA but lets say all over American, how many billboards do you see everyday that you can not read?

Because like Republicans, they see the Mexican vote as a way to win elections. Also Big Business wants them to stay and theyre the ones that line the pockets of both sides. If we were to deport all Illegals, our economy will collapse. They are the source of cheap labor and if you didn't know this, the largest spending minority in the country. They are also grooming the Illegals to become the new middle class. There are far more Republicans in favor of keeping immigrants here than Democrats. That's 48 out of how many? You need to take off your biased glasses and look at the big picture.

this country was founded on freedoms of belief and expressions, as well as faith. To make a national language would be taking away the right to freedom of speech. Think about it this way, why make English the official language when almost 99% of America speaks it anyways. It like making a bill that has no purpose.

What is spoken in Italy? What is spoken in Japan? What is spoken in China?I guess I should give you the answers because you're a republician and you cant figure it out yourself;and you're too within yourself to find out.Every country has a predominent and offical language.Instead of praying to Jesus for His permission and praise to abuse and kill the rest of the world outside your little cacoon, maybe you should open and actually read a book once in a while, trying a little educat....ah, you will never do that.By the way,English is the international language.I apologize, some of the words I've used are more than two sylables

American's don't speak English. You speak Americanese; English doesn't allow for words like, "ain't".
Aside from pointing out one of your fallacies... you're putting a spin on the issue by forgetting to mention what the actual agenda was on the ballot. They were voting on whether or not English should be the ONLY language that our country tries to represent.
Who really cares? 99% of American's on the internet can't even use spell check.
I say we pick a real language like Latin.

where did you get your info? last time I checked English was the official language of the US for the last 200 plus years or so and didn't realize it was open for a debate or that there was a movement to have it changed. Are you sure that this isn't republican rhettoric stuck onto another bill?

There are several congresspeople that claim to be Democrat, but vote along with the Republicans more often than not...which means they are republican shills that are lying to the american public, and should be kicked out, just like Joe Lieberman!

Hey Jesi, what exactly has Bush and the republican controlled Congress done about border security since 9/11? Oh yeah, NOTHING! I suppose that's Clinton's fault, right?
