To have a second connection would cost you the same as the first connection. You would be better off to buy a wireless router and use it to split your connection. The router takes your primary connection and splits it to multiple computers. Prices range from 30 - 200 dollars depending on what type of router you buy. You would also need a wireless adapter for the second computer.

Less than $100 and you have some choices.

1) Regardless of how you do it, you will need a router - about $50 at Best Buy or Staples or WalMart. Get a wireless router - even if you don't have wireless now, you will soon.

2) If you already have wireless on the bedroom computer, you are all set once you hook up the router.

2a) If not, get a wireless PCI card - about $25 at Best Buy, Staples, Walmart. This is a card that plugs into your desktop case and give you wireless capabilities.

2b) If you don't want to open up your case, get a USB wireless adapter - about $40 at Best Buy, Staples, whatever.

All of those will get you Internet access in the bedroom or any other room in the house. These are all only one time expenses, and it does not affect the cost of your monthly Internet bill.

3) There is one other option if you want, and that is to run a wire from the router through the wall and hard wire your connection. Probably more headache than its worth, but some folks like that better. All wireless routers have ports in the back where you can also hard wire a connection. If you go this route, your best bet is to buy the cable in bulk at Home Depot and build your own wires. It is not very hard, and will be cheaper. About 200ft of Cat5 wiring, crimper, and connectors from Home Depot will cast you about $35.

You don't even need wireless, if you don't mind drilling a hole in your wall between the 2 rooms OR snaking a long internet cable from one room to the other. Just get an ethernet router, which will split your connection into 4. But wireless might be easier for you, and would give you a little more freedom as far as being able to move the computers around.
Don't do it through your cable company - they will charge a fortune compared to doing it yourself.

Just use a wireless router. You can get these in any leading electronic outlet. You can use a regular router too. Your current internet connection can be plugged into the router and routers usually support upto 4 pcs or wirelss cards. When you buy a router you will get s/w with it. Install the s/w on the computers which share the same router. I hope you get the idea, good luck.

I have to wonder why you would put in a second line. Just network the two together. You can do it wirelessly and not even have to drill any holes in your walls. It's possible to do even if you still use dial-up. If you have DSL or Cable internet, it's a piece of cake.

Good luck.
