Also, do they have dorms the employees can stay in before they get on their feet to afford an apartment?

I have worked for Disney and Busch Gardens and fiance has worked for Disney, Universal, and Sea World. The starting pay for all the parks are right around the same (give or take a quarter). None have dorms for their employees, but Disney and I think Sea World do have dorm for "interns". At Disney they get payed less (when I worked there they got payed $6.00) but they are provided with a roof over their heads. Although lots of apartments in the immediate Disney area provide Cast Member discounts on your rent. I can't think of the names off the top of my head but they are located right behind Magic Kingdom Cast Member parking lot, and a few just down the street off CR535.
As for working at Disney I loved it, the benefits were awesome, your cast member ID is gold in the Orlando area, getting discounts everywhere, from McDonald's to Cingular. Pay is every thursday (EPCOT-Every Pay Comes On Thursday), which was real nice if you don't have direct deposit, so you have money for the weekends. I worked there during my high school years from the summer of 2003 to the summer of 2005, and was able to buy a gorgeous 2001 Celica. Plus it always gave my friends and I something to do, on the weekends to "Senior Skip Day" I plus three friends were able to get in with no problem. Some of my friends from Disney that were older and living on there own, were struggling if they were just working there, and many had to pick up a second job.
As for Universal from what my fiance and friends that worked their have told me, they don't treat their employees as nicely as Disney. They are also a lot more stingy on comp tickets, and only give out a few per year. The pay has always been a little bit better (like I said a quarter or so), but pay is bi-weekly on Fridays, so taxes are higher, so pay is about the same. Also in the Orlando area their ID doesn't have the same impact as Disney's, but they are in a program thing with Busch Gardens, and a few other parks where you get free tickets (only a couple), to other places in this program (don't remember the places, sorry).
Good Luck, if you plan on working at one, hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

I was a Cast Member at Disney World's MGM Studios a few years ago. I worked there as an intern with the college program, so it might be different pay than someone starting out outside of the college program. I made $6.00 an hour. I hear they make a bit more now. Either way it wasn't much money. But I didn't care because I got into the parks for free and had a ball!

Interns are put up at the Vista Way and Chattham Apartment Complexes nearby. But I don't know of any Disney dorms for regular cast members. You would just have to find your own place, as far as I know.

If you are in college, I highly recommend the college program. It's such a great experience!

The pay rate all depends on what type of job you get at Walt Disney World. Something like foods or merchandise get minimum wage, tickets and hospitality may get a bit more, but it is not much. Really the only ways one can survive on a Disney income is either have a roommate in a cheaper apartment, or if you really WOW them and get a management job right away (unlikely), or you work LOTS of extra hours. But even the extra hours are not given out like they used to.

There are no dorms or apartments for the cast (only college program students).

Best of luck! Maybe we will see you there someday.

I was interviewed for a zookeeper job with Disneys Animal Kingdom, and they did not have ANY sort of relocation program or funding, or any dorms. They did say that they could get me a discount rate on a moving truck though. The keepers job started at about 27-29K a year. I think they get paid quite a bit more than other employees though as it requires a degree.

I know the starting pay at Disney is 9.10 per hour and a pretty fun place to work if you are a social person... Depending on what you do you can make more money (If you are a character or face character you can make bank)

"No one works at Disney World for the money"- that is what all the cast members said when asked how much they get paid. I guess they get asked that alot, and the pay is low, but they all seemed happy.
