Voodoo dolls are used purely interior the vudun (voodoo) faith, which got here from carribean islanders. White witches are surely ecu in beginning, and a few practitioners might use some thing like voodoo dolls, in spite of the fact that it rather is not likely an identical. You learn lots once you reside in New Orleans for some years!

I practice Vodou. Voodoo dolls are not part of the religion. We honor our ancestors, serve the lwa (elevated spirits), and priase Bondye (God). Voodoo dolls as they are called is a form of sympathetic magic. Sympthetic magic uses an objec to represent a person. That object then has things done to it for a spefic purpose.

The voodoo doll as it know today became popular in New Orleans as Hoodoo. Hoodoo is African folk magic. When pins were seen in a doll people though torture. The pin was inserted in areas were pain or sickness occurred this helped to alleviate the pain. I have personally done this to a poppet of myself and it helped alot.

If you are interested in learning about useing the dolls. Learn about poppets. I did a search and came across this http://groups.msn.com/PaganHearthRecipes/poppetmagick.msnw

now i am reading a mixture of different things here

Voodoo is a Caribbean form of "religion" so dolls made in Bangkok will not work.

Each doll has to made for a special purpose (not mass made) each doll have to be made for an intended victim.

The three fold thing is prevalent in Wicca but not Voodoo.

It is believed that messing with black magic (using it for revenge) can have consequences and a price to pay (your soul), other believe that it is psychosomatic like hoodoo or other mystical healers

I guess it is up to you about what you believe.

Having been a geeky child in the early ninties, I know the answer to this. You take:

Something of head,
Something of thread,
Something of body and
Something of Dead.

Mix them all together in a patented mojo bag and BINGO! You have yourself a voodo doll.

there are plenty of books available on the subject . "dolls" of course can be used for good or ill purposes. involving onesself with negative energies for the purpose of harming another, allows such energies access to the operator, unless he/she is highly skilled. just thought that might be of interest. ;-)
