Addendum: Basically theories are accepted hypotheses (lots of observations backing up an explanation and nothing disproving it), and laws are collections of observations without explanation.

This website has the best explaination of seen of the differences. It really has to do with what is being measured, not how true something is.
Even if it's a law, a scientist would never say that it's been proved true. You can never prove anything is true, or right, only that something doesn't work. There's no end to the variables to be measured. No one can say for sure that gravity will still work tomorrow, but we have a preponderance of evidence to suggest it will.

if there is enough strong support for the theory, it becomes a law. for example, law of gravity. theories are just theories, they may have strong support but they can still be flawed if enough research is done and new discoveries are found.
