Ignaz Phillip Semmelweiss (I'm not sure of the spelling, but I think he was Hungarian). He sacrificed his life to bring aseptic procedures into hospitals so that patients would not die from infections.
Albert Schweitzer. He was so thankful for the life he had that he decided to show his gratitude to God by becoming a doctor and going to help some of the poorest people in Africa.
Mother Teresa needs no introduction or excuse. I couldn't have done what she did.
Queen Elizabeth. She has devoted her entire life to the service of her people. She does her duty quietly with dignity and has done her best not to create controversy. She is one of the hardest-working (rich) women in the world...and she's still going strong at eighty.
The Beatles, especially John and Paul for bringing about a revolution in music and style.

You never heard of mine. Megathenes. He was an ambassador to India for one of Alexander the Great's successors. He negotiated away some provinces for 300 war elephants that were used to decide the last major battle between the successors. He wrote of the country but all that remains is a few comments in reference by others.
So why would he be the most interesting, because he is the hardest to learn about. I can use him as a the one person in the middle of the important developments of his day.
