I have a young teenage girl that's been acting strange lately when I get anywhere near her computer when she is on it. I've checked the history of sights she has been on, but I think she may be erasing sites that she knows we do let her visit. I'm afraid she may be talking/writing someone online that could be dangerous. Is there a way I can check to see if she is using another email name she doesn't want us to know about?
thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you're using windows XP.

What you need to do is set up a user account for her that only permits her to read system settings, even for her. Which means she won't be able to delete the files, history, or play with the settings.

There are lots of parental care programs out there, I heard about something called NetNanny, not sure if it's free.
Also there is desktop conent control like K9 (it's a little more general) but they say it's free for home use.

They'll monitor traffic for you and your kid won't be able to delete those records, if they are any good they might have IP and DNS restrictions, which will deny her acces to sites you deem inappropiate.

Use a keylogger to if you will, it's a good ideea but you might find it cumbersome.

Also, try discussing this with your ISP, they might help too.

And tech notes aside. TALK TO HER. Reason with her. Tell her the internet can be dangerous when used innappropiate. You wouldn't leave her by the side of the road without giving her propper advice right? Well the internet is the information super highway...
Cheers.

Download the keylogger.com. Since I'm always in my bedroom I have my computer in the bedroom. I can always check who my kids chat with. Maybe you can do the same, if she doesn't like it tell her, that either that or don't use the computer at all. Speak to her and let her know how dangerous it could also be to give out information to people she don't know.

You know, when my kids were younger, I had the computer in the central room so I could see everything going on. I hate to deny kids the computer as it is where we are headed - however, they need to be closely monitored. Most people I know with teens have the computer very visable -

You can password protect it using a screensaver, if you wish so she can't get on at all unless you're in the room. Unfortunately, kids can go to other people's houses and do things..... the only thing you can control is what they do in your house.

search for a keylogger program. it will record everything she type on the keyboard. the problem with this is she can download a spyware removal tool and delete the keylogger. check now and then to make certain it is still there and working the way you set it up originally.

or you can install this key catcher device to do the same thing

every key catcher comes with heat shrink tubing so you can tell if it has been tampered with by your child

you can always remove the powercord when you aren't going to be there to watch her.

The best thing to do would be to install a keylogger program, which records everything that she types. This program can run in hidden mode so she won't know it is there.

The best thing I can tell you is to have the internet removed until she gets older
