I have a German Shepard who was in my home about 3 months before my daughter came, and unlike you will here alot of people say, they never had a problem. My furry baby would bark at me when the baby cried. She would also sleep right next the her basinet at night. My daugher is now almost 3 and they are still best friends. There is some jelousy with my husband, but this 79lb ball of teeth and fur has never, ever even done so much as growl at her.
I might think about a female over a male dog, just because they are more maternal. I also agree with the post about it being a big dog, they are just more durable.
Some would say not to have a dog around small children, and I agree on one point, dont leave them alone together for long periods of time, just because dogs are in fact animals. And stay away from any amimal if the child has alergies.

We got a 9 week old chow chow when my daughter was 13 months. the first day he was ver shy but after that him and my daughter are bestfriends they do everything together. It's cute. The puppy was 13 weeks when we brought home our newborn baby. He hasnt tried to do anything harmful to the baby in a matter of fact if we are not near the baby and he cries the puppy will come and get us.

Really anything, this is a great age for the baby to grow up with a dog, and for you to be able to train the animal to behave well among small children.
Avoid anything so small that it might get injured when interacting with the baby. Generally lab mixes are the best way to go. Avoid hounds, theyre not meant to be family dogs, and working dogs, such as collies, can be hyper and agressive.
Big breeds often are much better with children than small.
We currently have a dane, and he lives for babies. he stands 6'6" on his back feet, but acts like a mouse around the kids.

Depends on how big of a dog you want when it's full grown in a year or two. I would have to say a Golden Retreiver. They are the most loyal, the most gentle, and one of the most intelligent dogs that you can have. Just as long as their bloodlines weren't tainted. It needs to be a straight up pure bred. You can check this is the parents are on sight and the breeders have been involved greatly in breeding this species.

There are a mutitude of breeds that are great with kids, just be very careful. Puppies are puppies and they do stupid things until trained. They have a tendancy to nip and bite hands that are in their way. Just a little food for thought. Good luck on your search.

none yet. You should never introduce a baby and a puppy to the same household within 6 months of eachother.
Also, new studies show that children with inside or outside dogs are sick with congestion for a longer period of time.

Golden Retievers are wonderful dogs with babies and kids. We got ours when our son was a baby and let me say even as a puppy he was wonderful with our son. Then when we had our baby girl our dog was awesome with her, he would lay by her to make sure nothing happened to her and if she started to fuss our Golden would come over to us to let us know. To this day our son who is 4 wrestles with him and does stuff that other dogs may not like and Cadance just takes it all, when our daughter does stuff to him he just lays there and lets her do whatever LOL. Cadance will also herd them away from places they are not suppose to be either like close to the street and such. We did not train him to do this stuff either, he is just so wonderful and I would not trade him in for anything and we are actually thinking of getting another.

Personally I wouldn't bring a dog into the house right now.
But if you must, then a golden retriever is a great dog.

None they carry fleas and they stink. Oh and I have scars on the right side of my face when I was 3 from a golden retriever jumping on me because he wanted to play and I was just standing there. It was traumatizing I will never have a dog around my kids ever. I got $15,000.00 when I turned 18 because of my grandmas stupid dog and the dog was put to sleep! I never liked my school pictures until my mother allowed me to wear cover-up in highschool.
