This very much depends on the type of leather finish you have. Some purses are made from very soft leather which is very absorbent. If this is the case the ink will have redyed the leather and then nothing will get it out. You can only clean things off the surface of leather not out of it.

If it is a fairly resiliant type of finish you could try an ink lifter which may work. Leather cleaners may also work if it is on the surface. Saddle soap should not be used unless the leather is as tough as a saddle!!!! Otherwise it may do damage.

Hair spray has been known to work but as there will be some solvent present it may remove the finish which will then need replacing.

Try a small amount of a hand sanitizer. Let the gel stand on the mark for a short time and then rub/wipe it off with a clean cloth. I used it to remove a pen mark from the white leather seat of my rental car. It took a couple applications but it worked well.

First, try a Scuff Remover manufactured by KIWI. You can find it in shoe care section at Walmart. This is safest for leather.
Second, use rubbing alcohol... very sparingly at the area
Third, this will work for permanent marker but it may damage the leather finish--try your hairspray. Soak a Q tip or a toothpick with the spray and put it on and dab it out little bit at a time. If the leather finish is dull--don't worry, just shine it. Using KIWI shoe product.

Use a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol.
Try a non visible spot to see how the leather is affected. Let it dry for 24 hours. If it does not discolor the leather try it on the pen mark.

Should work.

I have alot of leather purses. I have at times just used simple soap and water with a soft sponge. Leather cleaner also works. Or use a bit of windex, it won't discolor the leather or dull the appearance but use sparingly.

Hairspray, the aerosol kind, is supposed to be a great ink remover. Even works on permanent marker. Shouldn't damage the leather either. Just soak and wipe with cloth towel repeatedly.

Had this happen on my leather seats in my car... use a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol. Apply just a small amount to the cotton ball and run on the stain. Then blot with a clean paper towel or dry cloth. Repeat as needed until the stain is gone. This DOES NOT work on suede.

Hair spray does work - I've had lots of luck with it removing ball point ink from lots of things. You should always test a small out of the way spot first to make sure you don't make things worse but honestly it has saved me many times. Good Luck!

You should be able to go to any local grocery store, Wal-Mart etc and find leather wipes (typically for couches and chairs) but try using a wipe on your purse. I bet it would work.

Here's a link to a brand of wipes.
