Mix 2 cups of water with 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol. Put in spray bottle and label it ..window washing. Wipe windows and mirrors with newspaper..different directions so you can tell where the streaks are. The ink in the newspaper makes your windows and mirrors shine.

The streaks happen because the towel or cloth doesn't fully remove the residue left over from wetting the glass with a cleaner. So you need to polish the glass to get rid of the streaks. As mentioned, newspaper does a good job. You can get microfiber cloths in the car wash section of Target, K-Mart, etc. Somethimes these cloths can clean with using a liquid. You would want to try one of these colths if you are cleaning a painted surface, as the ink in the newspaper will rub off.

It's not the solution it's the technique. Are you using paper towels? They are the worst thing you can use on a window unless they are those hard ones like in the public mens room. You need to use newspaper instead.

Purple 409 is the easiest to use. Do not use in direct sunlight wash winodows when they are in the shade. You could use vinegar and water wiping with newspaper but the ink from the paper get all over everything else except the window.......

You are sure right about Windex - it belongs on a useless products list!

The best thing to clean windows is windshield washer fluid which you can buy by the jug. Use a squeegee just like they have at the gas stations.

Professional window washers use a concentrate and water along with a washmitt, squeege, and a towel for drips. The results beat the heck out of Windex and paper towels.
