Do you only need Word and Excel? If you do you can get them online for about $99 dollars each. Online sites tend to have the best prices. Try www.pricewatch.com Do a separate search for Word; Excel; and Microsoft Office. This will give you a list of suppliers and their current prices.

The entire package which is called Microsoft Office contains Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and Frontpage. Depending on the specific version you purchase there may be some other things with it.

The cheapest Office suite costs about $275 retail.

If you don't need the very latest version of it, you might try looking on Ebay. I'm not an Ebay fan, but it's certainly an option. As an example, I am still using MS Office 2000 Premium with no problems as far as sending Word and Excel files to other folks. Newer versions of Word, etc. will read the older versions since there really isn't much that has changed over the years. The real changes are in the additional capabilities of the newer versions.

In a shop!
otherwise if you want free - try bittorrent
if you want cheap - try eBay
if you want the latest thing but Beta version - Pay £200 to become a Microsoft partner and they will send you everything - from XP to Office to Windows Server - VERY GOOD - Highly recommended
Last but not least - get a serial number off a friend or someones original office CD - when activating - click on activate via telephone - depending on where you are, it will give you a toll free or a slightly charging telephone number - call those people (usually some call centre in India) give them the number and say your PC crashed and now it when you try to install it refuses to accept, they'll give you a brand new serial numbers. Hope this helps.

Actually, if you go right to the Microsoft site, you'll see they have lower prices than you think. You can buy it new there - (what you're looking for is MS Office BASIC). You also can find original CDs on E-bay. I have bought several there and they were sealed with the hollogram.... so no problem.

You can also try using Open Office (I use MS) which is free. It's supposed to be able to save and open MS files..... lots of people use that.
