Well I hear about all these bad things happening on cruise ships, BUT when i went on a cruise absolutly nothing at all happened, it was relaxing, entertaining, and an absolute blast. I think it all has to do with the ship, the employees on the ship, and of course your fellow passengers. Yes on our cruise we drank way too much, as did alot of other people but everyone was very nice and I didn't hear of any fights, or anything bad happening.

They can be. Rapes have been reported and the cruise line downplays the crime. The cruise ship is in international waters so they are out of police jurisdiction.

Being on vacation does not mean you leave your common sense at home! Crime happens when you're least vigilant. Don't do it on vacation if you wouldn't do it at home. I live in a tourist area and the tourists walk in front of my moving car (against the light and not in a crosswalk) all the time. They walk on the beach at night and grumble when they get mugged. I bet they wouldn't walk in their local park at night so why here? They leave their purses in their car in plain sight. They lock their wallet and camera equipment in their rental car trunk while they go to the beach. Take your brain on vacation too. Don't leave home without it!

My parents have been on several cruises and have had loved each trip. They go with a group of friends and watch out for each other.

Have fun on the cruise ship. Be careful!

Believe it or not, more dangerous then you'd think.

Go here to read about a TON of horror stories!
http://www.internationalcruisevictims.org/

There are stories about disappearnaces, rape (both adult and children) and other horrifying stories.

The HUGE problem, is that NO ONE is accountable for crimes/or missing persons from a cruise ship. There is no "security force" on the ship, no phone to call for help, NOTHING...

And, nothing is changing any time soon.

I would rather be on a boat than a plane. I think cruise ships are just as safe as anything else. Just don't get drunk and pass out in the hallway, someone might take advantage of you.

Well whens the last time you heard a full size cruise liner sink?

I wouldn't want to take a cruise these days.

Apparently, since the crimes are committed in international waters, the US. is unable to investiagate and prosecute these crimes.

Nope. WAIT!!! Unless you count the overeating. I mean who needs to have a shrimp buffet at 2 in the morning? (even though I've been 3rd in line on several occasions)

Yes. You have to avoid the stampede to the buffet. Very ugly at feeding time. Trust me.
