Referring to 'Empire Strikes Back', of course.
Yoda knew this... so why wouldn't Obi-Wan think of this? I mean, he saw the twins be born. Why would he think of Luke as being the "only hope"?

My limited geeky understanding of the Star Wars universe is that the prophecy of the force dealt with a single child who would bring balance to the force.

Again, my understanding is that the Jedi Masters assumed that the child was a boy beginning with Anakin Skywalker... they transferred that belief to Anakin's son and firstborn (according to episode 3), Luke.

Remember that when Star Wars was first envisioned by George Lucas that ESB (episode V) were written before I, II, and III.... things were re-written in order to make for a better story on screen.

It's more dramatic (the infamous twist) for Yoda to say something mysterious like that. At the time, George Lucas hadn't 100% made up his mind what the twist would actually be until episode VI when it was revealed that Leia was Luke's sister.

Recall all those 'kissing cousin' moments during episodes IV and V. Things like Luke and Leia's relationship hadn't been firmly established.

Perhaps Obi-Wan wasn't sure that both of the children would have inherited the powers of the force. Also he was not as advanced as Yoda in the "ways" perhaps only Yoda could feel the faint traces of the force through her.

Because, LUKE was being trained as a Jedi.

And, Leia was not, and she nor ANYONE ELSE, ever felt the Force in her. ((Remember how close Vader was to her, and HE never knew, but, flying behind Lukes X-Wing, he could feel the Force with him?))

Should Luke have died, NO ONE but Yoda, would have known that Leia was a Skywalker, and NO ONE could train her.

In that sense, he WAS their last hope.

Also... No one, NO ONE, not even George Lucas himself had decided that Leia WAS Luke's sister.

THAT didn't happen until the day of shooting that scene. Even the script was so vague, that allit really said was, "Vader says something to Luke to make him angry."

I would guess that Obi Wan figured that the Force would only go to Luke not Leia.

Well...I disagree that Leia didn't have the force. It certainly wasn't as sharp as Luke's but she had it. ie: When Luke was hanging at the end of Empire and Leia and Lando and Chewie were flying away she felt Luke calling her and made Lando turn around....but I digress.
I agree w/ those who say that Luke was just the one who was more powerful of the two in the ways of the force. It was his destiny to bring balance to the force...not Leia's.

Because Leia being Luke's sister was something George Lucas came up with for Return of the Jedi - he didn't think of it before then.

cause Obi-Wan didn't think that Leia had enough or any connection to the force

Because Leia isn't very powerful with her Jedi powers. In fact, she probably didn't even know that she had them.

probably refers to archaic "law" as it was back in the day. you know, first born son must avenge or make right the wrong doings of his father?

It was never known if the sister would ever learn of her gift or if she would ever develop the strength to use it.
